General description

Phenyl isothiocyanate is an aromatic isothiocyanate. It participates in the alcohol dehydration reaction. [3] This is widely used for the synthesis of various heterocyclic compounds that are biologically important.

Application

Phenyl isothiocyanate can be used as a derivative reagent for analysis of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) various amphetamine derivatives in body fluids for forensic purposes.

Phenyl isothiocyanate (PIT) modified with polyethylene glycol (PEG), can be used as a reagent for protein PEGilation using human serum albumin as a protein model.

Derivatization of reagents for primary and secondary amines. Used in peptide sequencing by Edman degradation and amino acid analysis by HPLC
