This compound is a colorless, flammable compound
with a strong odor. This compound is the simplest secondary alcohol, where the
carbon atom that binds the alcohol group also binds 2 other carbon atoms (CH3)
2CHOH. Is a structural isomer of 1-propanol.
Uses:
1. In
the circuit board manufacturing industry, it is used as a cleaning agent and
conduction of PCB holes.
2. Used
as a solvent for flexo, lithography, gravure printing, and as a cleaning
device.
3. Used
as a de-icing agent for gasoline additives and fuel pipes.
4. In
the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, isopropyl alcohol is used in the
manufacture of wipes, hand and body lotions, preservatives, and their
substitutes for pharmaceuticals. It is also used in paints, thinners, paints,
cleaners and polishes, as well as surface sterilization, disinfection of
hospitals, food processing plants, etc.
5. In
many industrial and consumer products, isopropyl alcohol is used as a low-cost
solvent, as well as an extractant, and can be used as a substitute for ethanol
in most cases.
