General description

Benzyl alcohol is a monoaromatic primary alcohol that is widely used as a solvent and as an intermediary in cosmetic formulations, the pharmaceutical industry and aroma / aroma. [4] It is able to form OH .... π intramolecular hydrogen bonds and exist in the gauche cis conformation around the alcoholic group. [5]

Application

Benzyl alcohol reacts with triethyl phosphite and zinc iodide to form the corresponding phosphonate. [6] This can also be used in making benzyl bromoacetate by reacting with bromoacetyl bromide in the presence of sodium hydrogen carbonate. [7]
