General description

Benzoyl chloride, hydrochloric acid, is a commonly used benzoylation agent. [1] Arylation of activated alkenes 1.1 and 1.2 substituted using benzoyl chloride in the presence of a palladium catalyst has been investigated. [2]

Application

Benzoyl chloride can be used to synthesize:

• 4-Methoxybenzophenone through anisol acylation in the presence of cesium-substituted dodecatungstophosphoric acid (Cs2.5H0.5PW12O40) supported on K-10 clay. [3]

• Benzoylamino acid through the acylation of amino acids in the presence of diisopropylethylamine.

• p-, o-, m-Methylbenzophenone through toluene benzoylation in the presence of zirconia sulfate catalyst promoted by Al. [4]
